INTRODUCTION:

The Bible has long been used to condemn homosexuality.  There are six passages of Scripture generally used by conservative Christians in their condemnation of homosexuality.  The truth is that many Biblical scholars agree that a close study of the facts related to these passages of Scripture has nothing to do with same-sex love. Another fact is that the word ‘homosexuality’ and the concept of sexual orientation were not introduced into the English language until the late 1800’s.  Ancient Biblical authors had no concept of same-sex love or same-sex loving relationships. The purpose of this section of the website is to provide you with helpful information to bring about a better understanding of the passages of Scripture used by conservative Christianity in their condemnation of homosexuality. 

I discuss the six passages used, and as you read this information, I pray that you will read it with open hearts and minds asking God to reveal truths to you about God’s heart in each of these writings.

Before we delve in it’s important to understand some key facts about Bible origins.  For example, the books of the Bible were written by various authors in more than one continent over more than one millennium speaking more than one language.  The accounts given in the Bible, primarily the Old Testament, were obtained predominantly through oral tradition, stories handed down through the generations. Genesis happened some 600 years before it was written!  Additionally, there are no original copies of the Bible, so translations have come from copies.  We must also understand that the Bible was written centuries ago to a people in a very different culture than our own.
